EuroTalent IT, on behalf of its client, a global leader in commodities and logistics network of oil, petroleum, metal and mineral resources across 150 countries through an efficient, secure, and sustainable supply chain network, is seeking a highly motivated Junior/Mid Software Developer (Java/Python) to join their team in Athens (Glyfada).

Role

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining internal applications using Claude Code and a dedicated internal GitLab environment, alongside core programming experience in Java and/or Python to streamline shipping operations.
 

Scope

As part of the SmartOps initiative, you will contribute to one of the organization’s key digital transformation programmes. Your mission is to replace manual, error-prone shipping workflows with cost-effective, scalable, and automated in-house applications. You will work within a high-volume, global business environment, collaborating closely with Business Analysts in Athens, direct business stakeholders, and senior engineers/architects across international hubs (London, Mumbai, Houston, Montevideo).

Responsibilities

• Application Development: Design, build, and maintain internal applications for shipping teams using Claude Code and GitLab version control.
• Technical Implementation: Write maintainable code, handle data manipulation including JSON data structures, and consume or integrate REST APIs.
• Database Integration: Construct and execute SQL queries, joins, and basic data retrieval, with some exposure to database design (tables, schemas, relationships).
• Collaboration: Translate operational and functional requirements provided by the Business Analysis team in Athens into user-friendly applications.
• Global Teamwork: Participate in a distributed development environment, communicating directly with business stakeholders and remote engineering teams.

Requirements

• Experience: Around 3 years of professional development experience with solid understanding of core programming concepts (functions, control flow, data structures, basic OOP) and Java or Python.
• Soft Skills: High reliability, autonomy, initiative, detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to interpret business requirements and discuss trade-offs directly with stakeholders.
• Communication: Fluency in English (written and verbal) is essential for collaborating with a global, distributed team remotely with developers and architects across multiple locations (Athens, London, Mumbai, Houston, Montevideo).

Nice to Have:

• Exposure to AWS Bedrock and/or AWS databases (e.g., RDS, DynamoDB).
• Prior experience building an in-house or personal application from scratch.
• Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for basic front-end/UI work.
• Prior exposure to low-code platforms or AI-assisted development tools.
• Background in Shipping, Maritime, Logistics, or Commodities.
